Celebrating the Mothers of PALOMA

This year, Paloma Salon is celebrating Mother’s Day with our very own team.

We spoke to Paloma, Ruby and Alicia about what Motherhood means to them, their daily rituals and of course, love.

PALOMA

FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR

What does motherhood mean to you?
It means guiding, teaching and protecting my children through this beautiful, wild and wonderful world.

How do you show up for yourself and how has this reinforced your sense of self?
This is paramount. I am committed to showing up for myself every day, which greatly impacts how I show up for my boys.

How have you navigated your career and parenthood? What has been the most challenging part?
This has been challenging and an area I am still trying to do as best as possible. I am a mother first, but I understand how passionate I am about my business. It's not work/home life being in battle with each other, when I am in flow they work harmoniously.

What is a non negotiable to your everyday?
Vedic 20 min meditation every morning before my boys rise.

How do you approach your own wellbeing?
Very holistically. I am equally committed to my physical, mental and spiritual self. From Pilates, psychology, kinesiology, or energetic work. I work on all three ongoingly, which support me in being the best mother/woman I can be.

What type of mother do you aspire to be?
A calm mother, who relates beautifully with her children and has a strong bond with each.

What is your fondest memory shared between you and your mother?
Going to the hair salon with her. Swimming down at Balmoral. And watching ‘The Funniest Home Videos’ every Saturday night on the couch with her.

In what ways do you nurture yourself? Any daily rituals? Think books you swear by, podcasts, meditation?
Many as listed before. A hot bath at the end of a day. A long solo walk listening to great music or a podcast. An infrared sauna and/or ice bath.

What is the beauty hack that really saves you when you feel exhausted? Be it dry shampoo or a face mist, what’s your go-to?
Good skincare and 4L of water a day.

What are the hair products you can’t go without from Paloma Salon?
Kérastase 8 hour serum, morning and night on my ends for max hydration. Oribe Gold Lustre Shampoo and Conditioner. R+Co Sun catcher leave-in for vitamin C, antioxidants and UV protection. AYU rose body oil. Ultra Violette sunscreen every day!

RUBY

SALON COORDINATOR

What does motherhood mean to you?
Guidance, love and care. Guiding Koda through this big wide world that we live in. Giving her the tools and love and care that she needs to become her best version of herself.

How do you show up for yourself and how has this reinforced your sense of self?

Working out first thing in the morning to give me good mental clarity for the day ahead. I know that it’s okay if I miss a day and I try not to beat myself up about it but the feeling I have post working out is like no other.

How have you navigated your career and parenthood? What has been the most challenging part?
For me what I have found the most challenging of becoming a mother is asking for help. I’ve never been one to rely on others so this was sensitive ground for me. But I’ve learned that if people are there offering help take it. It really does take a village to raise a child.

What is a non negotiable to your everyday?
Sunrises, prior to koda you would find me by the ocean or cliff faces every morning rising with the sun. Since becoming a mother this is a little more tricky however I’ll try and catch the sunrise colours from a window at home.

What type of mother do you aspire to be?
A caring nurturing mother.

What is your fondest memory shared between you and your mother?
Being the best helper that I could and always mimicking mum to look after my younger siblings. Another would be, when she would get up super early to make dads lunches I would have been around 6 I think and I’d have my little step in the kitchen helping her.

In what ways do you nurture yourself? Any daily rituals? Think books you swear by, podcasts, meditation?
This is a very simple one but I’m normally up an hour before Koda wakes. This gives me time to breathe, drink water, coffee and have some alone time each morning to plan my day.

What is the beauty hack that really saves you when you feel exhausted? Be it dry shampoo or a face mist, what’s your go-to?
Hydration for my skin and body. Finding a great serum for my face to make it plump and glowy, getting enough water for the day I aim for 3-4L and I always have my lip gloss with me.

What are the hair products you can’t go without from Paloma Salon?
It has to be a Bhave keratin for me by far! This makes my morning routine cut down to a quarter and my hair wash and wear. From here it's then maintained by Bhave Nourish Shampoo and a delicious masque on my weekly shampoo. Fresh out of the shower Chromologist Thermique by Kérastase for moisture and hydration then when dry a spritz of bedroom hair by Kevin Murphy to give it a bit of messy hold.

What does motherhood mean to you?
It means love, guiding and protecting my boy through this beautiful crazy world.

How do you show up for yourself and how has this reinforced your sense of self?Trying always being positive, having a clear mindset and self care when I can.

How have you navigated your career and parenthood? What has been the most challenging part?
This has something I have found difficult to split myself with moving to Australia from Scotland and not having the help of family members. My son is my first priority and I am so passionate about my work.

What is a non negotiable to your everyday?
Waking up an hour before my son in the morning before I start the day, even if that is just having a relaxing bath or self care, always getting out the house to do some sort of activity and being productive.

How do you approach your own wellbeing?
This is something I struggled with, it really is ok to have a few hours to yourself per week.

What type of mother do you aspire to be?
Loving, fun and always being there for my boy.

What is your fondest memory shared between you and your mother?
My mum would always take us out to do activities every weekend rain, hail or shine. We were always outdoors doing something.

What is the beauty hack that really saves you when you feel exhausted? Be it dry shampoo or a face mist, what’s your go-to?
A nice pamper night, soaking in a long bath and good skin care to make me feel and look my best.

What are the hair products you can’t go without from Paloma Salon?
Kerastase Fusio Dose treatment! They are amazing. Being a blonde your hair can get dried out and it puts so much shine and moisture back into your hair. Being a mum makes your time limited, so I love how quick and easy this is to use!
