PALOMA Profiles: Nadia Fairfax-Wayne

PALOMA Profiles interviews Nadia Fairfax-Wayne, where she shares insights on her personal life, life transitions, her evolving state, what self-care means to her, and her feel good insights into being in the moment to lead a content and happier life.

The ‘Girl About Town’ as she is known, is changing and reflecting on what is next. Grab a cuppa and join us for this insightful chat with Nadia, and if you feel called to the hair treatment she is ‘utterly obsessed’ with, ask our team about the K18 leave-in hair mask treatment.

You’ve been a loyal client of PALOMA salon over the years, and it’s been beautiful to see you grow and evolve. Tell us, what does life look like for you now? What are you doing with work, life and play?

Life has become a lot slower as of late. On purpose. I have spent the last 10 years (or maybe more), running around like a mad woman. Always pushing myself to the brink – work, play, favours etc. Truthfully, I ran myself into the ground!

I have pulled back a lot. I’m taking on a little less work, saying no to social things that aren’t special to me, setting some solid boundaries with certain friends, or dropping unhealthy relationships entirely. Slowly restoring my inner peace and taking it all back to what’s really important in life.

Professionally, you have your finger in so many pies. Looking glamorous, social and fun, along the entire way. How do you define what you are now doing professionally? In your entrepreneurship there is so much, please enlighten us?

I wouldn’t even know what to say. I am often asked for my title for certain projects, and I never have an answer. I always say ‘Girl about town’ LOL! My job on any given week could consist of designing a collaboration with a brand, planning a luncheon for a client, doing a photo or video shoot, MC-ing or attending an event, creating content for my own channels, and everything else in between. Lately, I have been looking at what could be next for me. I definitely feel like it’s time for a change.

You recently got married (congratulations!), and seem to be traveling the world. What have been the highlights, and what do you want to focus on in coming years?

OMG, it was actually over 2 years ago. Haha! We had a “Buddy-Moon” about a year after, and then I recently converted to Judaism, and a few months ago had an intimate Jewish ceremony – so I think people think I’ve had multiple weddings. It’s just one man – I love him so much I can’t stop marrying him! (Typed with love hearts in eyes! Haha). Time for a family over here at Camp Fairfax-Wayne. Hopefully to create children in these coming years and really lean into that time in my life.

At PALOMA, the idea of ‘SELF’ is a core pillar to our brand, our service, and our community. What does ‘Self Care’ mean to you? How do you take care of yourself, and what are your ‘Self-Love’ practices and rituals?

I love this one, because I often feel like I want to express to others that ‘Self Care’ isn’t necessarily about ‘health and wellness’. Self Care is about what makes you feel good.

A practice that perhaps makes you feel rejuvenated, or maybe spikes your serotonin and dopamine levels. It’s not all green juices, meditation, and yoga. If getting maccas and binge watching Star Wars brings you delight, then go for it. If it’s a boozy lunch into a daggy dance session in your lounge room, do that. If it’s taking time out to get your hair done, book in (obviously three of my favourites right there!) Don’t feel guilty. Don’t get me wrong, make time for fitness and all the other good stuff too, but don’t punish yourself for not following Gwyneth Paltrow to a tee.

What do you value in life?

Hmm. My core values all stem around friendship and family. Promise-keeping and loyalty are non-negotiables to me. I very much value optimism and balance in all facets of life. Personally, I value my freedom – I think I’ve spent my entire life building towards an existence that allows me a lot of flexibility. Travelling is probably my favourite sport. I will and certainly have gone without a lot of things to make sure I have the ability to pick up and go wherever, whenever.

Since we are a salon about the ‘Self’ - as part of ‘Self-Care’ & ‘Self-Reflection’ - what is one thing you are working on within yourself? It could be an external attribute - a goal you have, on an internal attribute - something you are working to evolve within yourself?

I feel like I have had quite a large amount of growth in this past year, so I haven’t put too many goals in front of me. I am just trying to enjoy the change, and take it all in. I could say I have been consciously trying for more down time. Like actually putting it in the diary as ‘NOTHING’ and sticking to it. Also, less yelling at the TV when I watch sports… HA!

Lastly, of course we have to ask. Who does your hair at PALOMA Salon, what do you get done, and what hair products do you use?

Honestly, I move around a lot! I trust each and every one of the team, so it’s more about who’s free when its suits me most. My most recently colour is by the oh-so handsome Jake, and the last chop I had was from the precision king – John. Although I am in the midst of growing it out.

In regard to products, being a blonde - I am utterly obsessed with K18! My regular shampoo and conditioner is Kérastase Nutritive– but in saying that, I will move to others dependant on what my hair is doing. I am always happy to be guided by the team, as they know their stuff! I use the Kérastase Extentioniste Thermique leave in, typically with a few drops of the K18 oil, if I haven’t done a K18 treatment.

Whilst you have the attention of our beautiful community, is there any message you would like to share - personally or professionally? We would love to hear!
Hmmm, I think just a general reminder to enjoy the small stuff. I think there is a little too much ‘more, more more’ happening in the world at the moment. Everyone trying to project a life that’s bigger than they have on social media platforms etc.

A good homemade sandwich, a deep belly laugh with friends, a favourite old song you haven’t heard in ages popping on the radio. Take delight in these kind of moments, and you’ll feel full of joy, be content, and lead a much happier life.

Thank you so much for sharing your insights, wisdom and self with us!
